Darkstalkers Resurrection, coming early 2013, has one of the most unique and creative casts in gaming, as they are all based on classic monster types, from vampires to werewolves and even succubi! Now is your chance to try your hand at designing your own hypothetical Darkstalker character!

Entries are very open-ended. While there are a few basics we'd like you to include, you can expand as much as you like. Do you have movesets? Win quotes? You can even attach artwork of your character to your entry email!

Winners will be chosen based on the uniqueness of their design, the ability to make their monster type fit in with their fighting style, and generally how cool the character is. And if yours is selected as the top idea, your character will be immortalized in an art piece by Darkstalkers Resurrection artist Stanley "Artgerm" Lau.

What we're looking for:

A unique Darkstalker character concept based on an existing monster type, be it from horror movies, folklore, mythology, etc.
A set of basic information, including name, physical description, fighting type, etc. (See below)
Additional information and assets are optional, but gladly accepted. This can be either included in your entry email directly, or as an attachment.
You can collaborate with other fans in groups of up to three.

Prizes Include:

Grand Prize - A custom made drawing of your character by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau, the artist for Darkstalkers Resurrection, along with one copy of the UDON Darkstalkers Tribute art book and one copy of Pop Culture Shock's Lord Raptor statue.

EMBRACE THE DARK Character Creation Competition Rules

These Competition Rules govern the EMBRACE THE DARK Character Creation Competition (“Competition”). They should be read in conjunction with the Capcom General Terms and Conditions for Online and Social Media Promotions (“General Terms”), available at www.capcom-unity.com, and which also apply to this competition. For any inconsistency between these Competition Rules and the General Terms, these Competition Rules will govern, but only to the extent of that inconsistency:

Entry Period: The Competition opens at noon on December 14, 2012 PST and closes at 11:59 p.m. on January 20, 2013 PST.

How to Enter: Create a unique Darkstalkers character and provide a general description of that character via email submission to darkstalkers@capcom.com. Entrants are also encouraged (but not required) to provide (i) any relevant backstory; (ii) information relating to the type of monster the character is based on; (iii) artwork of the character. Entries will be accepted by individuals as well as by groups of up to three (3) members. No more than two (2) entries per person whether in a group or individually.

Eligibility: The Competition is open to residents of the United States, Canada and the European Union aged 13 or over (requires consent of a parent or legal guardian for entrants aged 13-17) except employees of Capcom or any of its affiliates, their families, agents or anyone professionally connected with the Competition.

Prizes: Eight entries will be chosen and ranked for prizing as follows:

1st Place: One (1) digital file of artwork created by renowned artist Stanley Lau depicting the winning character (estimated retail value (“ERV”) $0); one copy of Lord Raptor statue by Pop Culture Shock (ERV $249.99); and one copy of the Darkstalkers Tribute art book by Udon (ERV $39.99).
2nd – 3rd Place: One (1) copy of Lord Raptor statue by Pop Culture Shock (ERV $249.99).
4th – 8th Place: One (1) copy of the Darkstalkers Tribute art book by Udon (ERV $39.99).

For winning entries submitted by a group, up to three prizes will be awarded for such group. For example if a group of three people submit the 2nd place winner, each of the three people in the group will receive one copy of the Pop Culture shock statue. Total ERV all prizes: up to $1949.76. Winner: Winner will be selected by a panel of Capcom judges. Judges will review all eligible entries, and will base their selection on the following criteria:

Unique and creative concept, based on existing horror and folklore archetypes.
Ability to incorporate character’s archetype and background into its fighting style.
Ability to describe the physical appearance through either artwork or text description.

Capcom will announce the winning entry at 12:00 noon PST on January 25, 2013. Winners will be notified by via email provided on the entry form within one (1) week of announcement.
